Some Family Recipes

My sister Sally decided that the best way to sort our mother's recipes was to bundle them into a box and send them to my wife Anne. Included were some recipes from our great-aunt Ida Reynolds. They were tatty with use and spilt ingredients so they have been preserved digitally in part here.

These recipes reflect a time when the sharing of recipes between women was a social institution. Asking for a recipe was a mark of deference to a host over afternoon tea or during a meal.

Then the recipe was copied out by hand and often the source acknowledged. Note the Xmas Pudding recipe is particularly grubby -possibly due to the family tradition of extra brandy being added by helpful family members as they passed by the pudding bowl where the pudding was tied in a cloth.
